Yahoo Site Explorer Now Showing Page Type

I had not checked into Yahoo Site Explorer for a while but when I did today I noticed that they have added some additional information to their listing of indexed pages and backlinks. Instead of just showing the title of the page and the URL they now show the page type as well. The few listings I have checked differentiate between Text/HTML pages and Application Pages (Like PDF Files). Here are a couple of screenshots of the new feature.

Text/HTML

I am always happy to see more information being provided by search engines and this is a good step. I would like to see them continue to expand on this and provide more detail but I am happy to see them attempting to move forward.

Changes in Yahoo’s Site Explorer. Same Old 301 Problems.

I am still having issues with Yahoo Site Explorer providing me with link data for all of my pages. I do notice some distinct changes in the the links that Yahoo is showing for my root domain though. I decided to dig a little deeper and noticed some interesting things (to me at least). All in all Yahoo is reporting almost 50% more links to my home page.

The biggest difference I have seen is that it appears that Yahoo has picked up their crawling and indexing of social networking sites and videos. Many of the links in my profiles at different networking sites are now being reported in Yahoo. Links from comments and discussions on other social media sites seem to have been picked up more readily as well. On top of that this is the first time I have seen the videos I added to YouTube months ago being reported. The addition of the social networking and YouTube links in my links data seems to make up the majority of the increase that Yahoo is reporting.

Another thing I noticed is that Yahoo is still having a problem with a 301 redirect that was done at least two months ago. Google, MSN, and Ask all seem to have updated and everything is working fine. But not Yahoo. They still show pages from both sites in their index. The funny thing is that it does not appear to be hurting the site as pages from both versions seem to do well. Of course, Yahoo sends such a minscule amount of traffic to me I could not really tell if this was in fact hurting or not.

While Yahoo seems to be improving their ability to find and index pages and link (or at least report them) they still seem to be having problems with 301 redirects. I remember reading about 301 redirects and the fact that Yahoo does not recognize them years ago but it is insane that they still don’t have the ability process a proper 301 redirect. I am glad that they seem the crawling more and more pages more frequently but I really hope they can catch up with the other engines when it comes proper redirect and server response issues.

Yahoo Site Explorer Acting Funny

I recently logged into Yahoo Site Explorer to check on a few of my sites and the link function does not seem to be functioning correctly. It is OK if you just check links by the individual URL but when you choose the option to show links to every page on the site it will not go past the second page. The first page displays the correct number of links for the entire site but when I click on the page 2 it reverts back to page 1 and shows only the links to the home page. Is anyone experiencing this same situation?
